Broad Run Toll House
I was recently ruminating about the county's ancient toll roads elsewhere, and while researching the Leesburg Turnpike I found out one of its old toll houses still exists!
The Broad Run Toll House is located just south of Route 7, near the junction of Route 28. There used to be a stone bridge across Broad Run as well, but it collapsed in 1976 after being damaged years earlier by Hurricane Agnes. The toll house itself is nearly 200 years old! It was threatened by development of the area and proposed alignment of Pacific Boulevard, but now plans have changed and it's going to be preserved.
I'm going to try to get pictures of the toll house and bridge ruins tomorrow.
